Meet the Board
The Board of Trustees consists of five elected members. Trustees serve without pay. A trustee’s normal term of office is six years. A trustee may serve for a shorter term in order to fill a vacancy. Open to the public, meetings of the Board of Library Trustees are held at the library on the fourth Monday of the month at 7:30 pm. unless rescheduled by the trustees.
The Board of Trustees of the Tomkins Cove Public Library is responsible for governance and overseeing the provision of library service to meet the needs of the Tomkins Cove community. To this end, the board shall:
Determine library policies.
Employ a capable library administrator.
Secure adequate funds for library operations.
Approve expenditure of library funds.
Provide and maintain adequate facilities.
Insure a representative selection of library materials.
Promote use of the library within the community.
Perform other duties as outlined in New York State Statutes.
Eleanor Kassner, President
Ellie Kassner grew up in Tomkins Cove and is glad to be back in Rockland! She graduated from Skidmore College with her Bachelor’s Degree and is currently attending Marist College as a Master of Business Administration Candidate. Ellie currently works in the construction industry. Ellie is excited to be part of the Tomkins Cove community, especially through her service to the library.
Pete Reilly, Trustee
Pete is an author, educator, and consultant to many schools districts. His latest book is, "A Path with Heart: The Inner Journey to Teaching Mastery". Pete is a certified Master Somatic Coach and holds a black belt in Aikido.
Eric Kassner, Trustee
I have lived in Tomkins Cove since 1973. The combination of interesting people from all walks of life and green spaces have kept me here. I have raised my family in Tomkins Cove and continue to operate our business in town. I enjoy volunteering my time in helping to keep the Library up and running.
Della Wells, Trustee
Della Wells has resided in Tomkins Cove since 1994 and in Rockland County since 1984. She earned a B.Sc. in Zoology from California State University, Long Beach, in 1974 and several professional certifications (Computer Technology, Software Quality Analyst, and Production & Inventory Management) over her career. She retired in 2014 as a Senior Director, Quality Assurance, from Oracle Corporation in Tarrytown, NY, where she worked for over 25 years. She has served as an officer on the Boards of Directors for the American Society for Quality (Tappan Zee Chapter), Rockland Audubon Society, Audubon Council of New York State, and the Edgar A. Mearns Bird Club. She enjoys natural history study, particularly birds, and reading. She is a regular user of resources from both the Tomkins Cove Library and the Ramapo Catskill Library System.
Barbara Hart, Trustee
Barbara grew up in Salamanca, NY, a town in western NY that had a Carnegie Library, and she’s loved libraries ever since. After earning a BS in political science from SUNY Brockport and an MS in journalism from Boston University, she has worked as a reporter, an editor, a teacher and, for a time, as a public relations assistant answering fan mail for Big Bird and the Muppets at Children’s Television Workshop. For the past ten years, she has been employed by Nyack Library as an information specialist in the Children’s Room. Having first lived in Tomkins Cove in the early 90’s, Barbara returned in 2012, happy to be back and honored to be serving as a trustee for the Tomkins Cove Library.
