Meet Eleanor Kassner

Why did you decide to run for the board?
Growing up in Tomkins Cove, the library was both my bus stop and my favorite place in town. After moving back to the area, I ran for the library board so that I could give back to the community.

What would  you like to accomplish while you're on the board?
Over the past year, our library director, Janet Lucas and I have been
revising our policy manual, which is something very important to me. I also would like to see our programming continue to grow successfully and serve patrons.

What do you see as some of the biggest challenges the library faces?
As we know the library building is beautiful, and iconic, but buildings
from a different time take serious maintenance. I think the biggest
challenge the library faces, is it's impending need for serious
renovation. Working in the construction field however, I hope to be part of overseeing that project in a beneficial way.

What do you like to do in your free time?
I am currently a small business owner and pursuing my master's degree, so free time is in short supply! However, in the summer I enjoy restoring vintage sports cars, tending to my (rookie) vegetable garden, and spending time with my family.

Anything else you'd like us to know about you?
Please feel free to approach me in the library, the grocery store or other places around town! I believe the library is there to serve the patrons, and I'd love to hear your feedback!
